SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is operated by Stanford University for the Department of Energy Office of Science. SLAC’s media policy is influenced by and reflective of the media policies of both the Office of Science and Stanford. These high-profile public and private institutions are dedicated to developing and maintaining positive relationships with the media while generating awareness, understanding and support for their initiatives and endeavors.
SLAC is committed to continuing these best practices and maintaining transparent and productive relationships with members of the press. The lab proactively builds and fosters meaningful relationships with the media, which are critical to informing the science-interested public and other stakeholders of the many scientific breakthroughs and milestones at SLAC and driving awareness, support and engagement among our key audiences. In particular, the lab strives to provide the media with accurate, timely and impactful information as well as access to its facilities and experts whenever appropriate.
This policy aims to:
- Ensure that newsworthy events and milestones at SLAC are accurately and effectively communicated to the news media, and in turn, the public and other stakeholders.
- Outline and clarify requirements and guidance for all employees to use when interacting with the press.
- Document governance, guidelines and processes for creating materials aimed at the media.
