The purpose of the SLAC Personal Identity Verification (PIV) and Position Designation Tool (PDT) Policy is to ensure that SLAC provides the Laboratory workforce with effective and consistent policies and procedures for identity management, credentialing, and personnel risk determination.

This policy establishes uniform requirements for the issuance, use, and management of PIV credentials and for the application of the PDT as part of an integrated approach to personnel security, suitability, and access control. It aligns with federal mandates and supports SLAC’s commitment to protecting assets, personnel, and information resources.

This policy ensures compliance with DOE, DHS, and federal standards for identity proofing, credentialing, and background investigations. It links position risk designations determined through the PDT with credentialing and access control measures administered through the PIV process. Together, these processes strengthen SLAC’s personnel security program, reduce insider threat risks, and safeguard Laboratory operations.
